Permutation #21 – september 4-5 2024

Par les villages – Opening Nights initiated and produced an edition of Permutations, a principle of experimentation proposed and developed by Clyde Chabot since 2012 as part of her company La Communauté Inavouable.

This edition took place Monday 4 and Friday 5 November at the Espace Jean Ferrat in Septèmes-les-Vallons.

Clyde Chabot coordinated this edition which also brought together 3 other artists from the collective: Marie-Hélène Desmaris (Marie-Hélène Desmaris company), Sarah Dropsy from Collectif Dromolo, Charlotte Tessier from La Bouillonnante.

During Permutations, artists from different artistic disciplines put themselves at the service of each other, according to an equal sharing of time for a time of experimentation on their projects or intuitions. On this edition the disciplines brought together were dance, youth theater writing, all-terrain shows, contemporary theater.

Clyde Chabot worked on a specific editing of his text Two Brothers, here transformed into Two Sisters in view of the people gathered. This show, currently being created, augmented for the occasion by an epilogue, was tested in a 3-person cast: the two sisters and their mother in a silent choreographic presence and in a link to sound.

Choreographic and musical research was carried out on certain scenes. The character of the mother was filmed on video in the person of Marie-Hélène Desmaris.

Marie-Hélène Desmaris, company Marie-Hélène Desmaris, choreographer proposed, based on warm-ups, work around Shakespeare’s Sonnets around the book object on a stage and the choreographic repercussions of extracts read randomly in silence. These extracts were then spoken more or less aloud individually or collectively and translated into space. On the second day, she proposed a principle of experimentation with the “Body Landscape” principle, the work of instantaneous choreographic writing in the landscape.

Sarah Dropsy, author for young audiences, proposed a reading and play by the participants of a text for adults currently being written. The next day, drawing inspiration from the book Enfances Obscures by Pierre Péju and Jankélévitch, she tested the principle of a writing workshop around childhood and the present time. Sarah read another text currently being written questioning everyday happiness.

Charlotte Tessier does all-terrain theater. In her latest creation, she travels by bike for two days around the venue. On this occasion, she wrote a specific additional text which describes the local landscape, recounts her meetings with local characters, traces the history… She wondered about the status of these additional texts and suggested that they be read by the participants. She experimented with the possibility of relying on these additional texts to design workshops with residents. She thus proposed a silent transcription inspired by extracts from these texts in the landscape which she filmed on video. At the same time, she invited them to make a choral recording. She mixed the two sources to create small local films/portraits.
